River Hospital Scholarship Fundraiser a Success
The “Miracle on the River” Scholarship Program recently received a “boost” by local restaurateurs, Chuck
Penn and Michael John Cavallario of Cavallario’s Steakhouse.
“An offer to hold a fundraising dinner came to us by Chuck Penn at the beginning of May and by the end of
the month, a wonderful dinner event was held with over 225 dinners sold and a profit of almost $2,500”,
commented Jacqualine Costello, Executive Director of River Hospital Foundation.
In addition to the success of the dinner event, a heartwarming announcement was made by Cynthia
Mecomber, employee of River Hospital, who contributed $1,000 toward the scholarship program in honor of
longtime friend and dedicated River Hospital supporter, Laura Coles. Cynthia noted Laura’s passion for the
Hospital and encouragement that she has offered and continues to offer individuals in the medical field. One
such individual inspired by Laura’s encouragement is Lisa Trickey, who matched Mrs. Mecomber’s
contribution of $1,000, in recognition of Laura’s kindness and support as she entered into her career to
become a Physician’s Assistant.
Mrs. Costello remarks, “We also had the opportunity to recognize the generous donation of $2,000 from
“Friends of River Hospital” at the dinner event. Jeff Youngs, Treasurer of “Friends”, along with Karne Peters,
President, presented a check to Mary Wills, Vice-President of River Hospital Foundation, and co-chairman of
the “Miracle on the River” Scholarship Program. It was a great evening filled with people happy to support
River Hospital’s programs. The staff of Cavallario’s and volunteers are to be commended for their
enthusiasm.”
